PEN and BOW 3 at ZKO

Program

In the FEDER UND BOGEN series, selected literary texts are combined with classical works to create a unique overall composition.

"If I were Beethoven, I would say it in music," Stifter wrote in an essay about the solar eclipse he experienced in the early morning of July 8, 1842. We juxtapose Stifter's solar eclipse with Franz Schubert's String Quintet in C major, D 956.

Many rumors surround the creation of the string quintet. Many see it as the last legacy of Schubert, who completed the work in the year of his death. However, there are also indications that he worked on it several years earlier. It is undisputed that the string quintet is special in many ways. Similar to the extraordinary experience of a solar eclipse, it touches deeply - and yet remains intangible, mysterious, strange.
